Tillie cole sweet home series5/30/2023 ![]() ![]() This is the story of me and my girl, from my lips. Tell that to thousands of kids around the world getting wailed on by asshole parents for whatever stupid reason tell them evil don't exist in their eyes. I say, how the hell would they know? We made it, didn't we? She became my whole life, didn't she? And as for my folks not being real, being true? Tell that to me aged ten, eleven, twelve-damn, all my bastard life-when I was never enough, when I was beaten until I bled for being too good at football and not being everything they'd dreamed: the perfectly dutiful son. Now hear the story from his lips: unbarred, uncensored, and raw to the bone.It makes me laugh when I hear folks think Molly and I rushed into it too fast, spouting that we couldn't possibly have felt what we did for each other in such a short space of time. You met Romeo Prince in the Amazon & USA Today bestselling novel, Sweet Home. ![]()

Brighton rock book review5/30/2023 ![]() ![]() Ida tries to talk sense to the girl and confides in her old friend Corkery ( John Hurt). Pinkie has scarcely even been nice to her, and she knowingly puts her life at risk for him. ![]() It takes place in shabby boarding houses and on chilly cliffs, and when the action moves to the grand hotel where the gangsters meet, some of the characters seem uneasy there.Īndrea Riseborough evokes a hapless Rose. It is often overcast, or dusk, or night, and there is little sunshine for those seeking a holiday. The sea rolls darkly under the pier, the full cries are forlorn, the music is mournful, the colors are muted. "Brighton Rock" is a film of ominous gloom. This is explained to Rose, too late, by Ida ( Helen Mirren), the steely owner of the tea shop, who figures out the whole story but can't prevent Rose from falling under Pinkie's power. ![]() Then she can't be forced to testify against her husband. Instead of killing her to silence her, Pinkie marries Rose. Why does Rose ( Andrea Riseborough) fall in love with him? And well she does. This Pinkie ( Sam Riley) is an evil young man, dead-eyed, fearful, violent. Greene's Catholicism plays a central role in the lives of many of his characters, few more than Pinkie and Rose - she because she holds a simple faith, he because he believes in hell and that he is headed there. This sets in motion "Brighton Rock," the second film adaptation of Graham Greene's 1938 novel. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() There are “some beautiful specimens, including some surprising discoveries.” “It is wonderful,” says Douglas Erwin, a paleontologist at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History who was not involved with the work. There have been few clues about what happened in between, but fossils from 462 million years ago recently discovered in a quarry in central Wales are filling in that gap, researchers report today in Nature Ecology & Evolution. But by 400 million years ago, almost all of those species disappeared, eventually replaced by the ancestors of most modern animals. ![]() Between 540 million and 485 million years ago, during the Cambrian period, so many new, complex animal life forms arose that paleontologists speak of the Cambrian Explosion or the Biological Big Bang. ![]()

The crucible novel5/30/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The nonfiction readings “Herd Behavior,” “On Tragedy,” and “McCarthyism” provide a foundation on which students can build their analysis of the play. Through reading excerpts of Maryse Condé’s I, Tituba, Black Witch of Salem, which is the story retold from the slave’s, Tituba’s, perspective, students can analyze the impact of narration and point of view in a work of fiction. In addition to the play, students will read several paired texts that add to their analysis of the core text. In exploring the circumstances of the Salem witch trials, which occurred centuries prior to Senator Joseph McCarthy’s communist “witch hunt,” Miller raises questions about the devastating impact that corruption, herd mentality, and vengeance can have on a community. Written during the McCarthyism scare of the 1950s, the play underscores the importance of remembering the events of our collective past. ![]() In this unit on Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible, students will explore the thematic topics of history, community, and truth. ![]()

Angels michael heiser5/29/2023 ![]() ![]() Learning what the Bible says about angels ultimately is tied to thinking well about how God thinks about us” (xv). He continues, “God’s supernatural family is a theological template for understanding God’s relationship to his human family of believers-and our greater importance compared to them. That’s only discoverable with a firm grasp of who God is, what he’s done, why he’s done it, what else he intends to do, and why he doesn’t want to do it alone” (xiv-xv). Eternal perspective requires understanding what makes God tick. Biblical wisdom involves not only practical, principled, decision-making skills but eternal perspective. ![]() ![]() In the introduction, Heiser poses a question: why would we need to know this information? Why bother? Heiser answers, saying, “A life well lived extends from wisdom. Michael Heiser is the academic editor for Logos Bible Software, Bible Study Magazine, and Faithlife Study Bible. We need one that is centered on the biblical text by someone who studies the entire Bible, who knows the biblical languages, and who understands how ideas of spiritual beings have changed from the Old Testament to the New.
